In January, Jim and Norma Jeane Dougherty left their apartment and moved to 01747 Archwood
Street, Van Nuys, the former house of Jim's parents (
).Jim worked at the Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank.
During Summer, they moved again and settled in a house located Bessemer Street, Van Nuys.
Norma Jeane adopted a collie named Muggsy (
).
Jim's work at Lockheed was considered as essentiel for the National Defense and could have avoided him the national service but Jim wanted to go aboard. So he applied for incorporating the Navy. He was enrolled at the Maritime Service Training Base on Catalina Island. A resort full of visitors in the 1930s, nobody was allow to go there during WWII, as the island was a military training camp.
In September they moved in an apartment in Avalon.
Jim had to train the Marines new recruits (
).
They became close to 2 other couples, the Gaddis and the Whites. Jim was James Edward
Gaddis's godfather (

Norma Jeane visited the Catalina zoo (
