Story

Student at the Washington University in St Louis, Missouri, he obtained the Rhodes Scholarship, which allowed him to study at Oxford University, in England.

Back to the USA, he became reporter for the St Louis Post-Dispatch.

During WW II, he worked as a political affairs officer for the State Department ().

In 1955 he resigned as journalist and became a public relations agent. He worked as assistant direction of public relations for Universal Studios.

He worked for the Arthur Jacobs agency and was in charge of the press relatoons for movie stars as Marlene Dietrich, Bette Davis, Gregory Peck, Deborah Kerr.


With press agent Lois Weber, he founded the Allan-Weber Agency, then the Allan, Foster, Ingersoll & Weber

agency in early 60's (,).

The office of the agency was located 132 South Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills where worked Rupert Allan, David Foster and Rick Ingersoll. Lois worked in the New York office, 567 Madison Avenue, with Christopher Allan.
In Paris Nadia M.LaCoste represented the agency; Chris Hofer in Roma; Phyllis Earl in London.

In 1989, Prince Rainier of Monaco made him Chevalier of the Order of Grimaldi, in honor of his service.

At the end of his professional life, he was the head of the Stone-Hallinan Associates agency.



Link with Marilyn

In September 1949, thanks to Johnny Hyde, Marilyn crossed the threshold of the opulent residence overhanging the Beverly Hills Canyon. This particular evening, Rupert Allan had put together a crew of new-yorker photographers and also a horde of starlets, in preparation for a photo session. It was this night that Marilyn met Milton Greene, aged 27. He made an impression on her; his enthusiasm, the passion he used to talk about his job, his original ideas captivated Marilyn. He compared photography with a "painting with a camera", a feminine beauty celebration.

On February 8, 1952, he attended the ceremony of the Henrietta Awards, during which Marilyn received the award of "The Best Young Box Office Personality", which took place at the Santa Monica Del Mar Club

In 1955, year of the creation of the Marilyn Monroe Productions, whose publicity was assured by the Arthur Jacobs agency, Rupert Allan dealt with Marilyn personal publicity.

On January 16, 1960, he attended the press conference given for the shooting of  "Let's Make Love"

,- and in June 1960, he was also there at Marilyn's birthday party

on the set .

He accompanied her at the Golden Globes Awards on March 8, 1960, at the Los Angeles Ambassador Hotel

He soon became the official reporter of Marilyn, and remained there until 1960, time of shooting of "The Misfits"

In Monte Carlo, Grace Kelly had complained to Frank Sinatra about her press agents; Arthur Jacobs suggested her Rupert Allan who asked Pat Newcomb to replace him; Sinatra convinced Marilyn to hire her.

Becaming a princess, Grace Kelly () offered him to become the Monaco General Consul in Los Angeles, which he accepted.
