Son of a banker.

He learned photograohy alone.

He lived and worked in Rome, Paris and London.

He arrived in the USA in 1938, with the help of Arnold Gingirch from Esquire magazine, and opened a photo studio in New York City.

On September 26, 1938 he married Suzanne Laytha (born December 9, 1911, Hungary)() in New York.

His last wife was Shirley Temple Ellis (September 14, 1940-November 19, 2009, Los Angeles).

David O.Selznick, independant producer, made him come to Hollywood in 1944, to take pictures of Ingrid Bergman.

In 1945, he had a strong reputation as photographer.

He was aged 32, had an attractive build and the blue eyes when he met Norma Jeane, in November 1945, through the Blue Book Modeling Agency.

He took the first pictures of Norma Jeane in 1945. They were pictures of a pretty girl, typical of the era : on road 101, up north Hollywood, or in a field with a new-born lamb, in denim trousers and red blouse, or on the Malibu beach with shorts and sweater.
