ADLER Buddy


E.Maurice ADLER known as


Date of birth : June 22nd 1909,  New York.

Date of death : July 12th 1960,  Los Angeles.


Practise: filmmaker at the Columbia in 1948, and at the Fox from 1956 until his death.


Story:

He began his career  by writing advertising articles for his father shoe company.

He integrated the show-business when the MGM hired him to take part in the writing of scripts. During this time, in the 30's and 40's, he wrote several short films.

After his national service in the US Signal Corps, he came balc to Hollywood and became filmmaker at the Columbia where he overlooked several projects, among them  « The dark past » (1948), « No sad songs for me » (1950) and « From here to eternity » (Academy Award Winning for Best Movie in 1953).

Lots of his movies were biog commercial success as « Love is a many splendored thing » (1955), « Anastasia » (1956) and « South Pacific » (1958), but he also produced « A hatful of rain » (1957).

In 1956 he became head of the production at the Fox,  replacing Darryl Zanuck at the head of the studio. He remained there until his death in 1960.
