Château Marmont Hotel

 

Address 8221 Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood.

 

Story

Famous hotel because it was the long ans short-term residence of celebrities.

Today it offers 63 places through the rooms, suites, cottages and bungalows.

The property had been purchased by a lawyer, Frank Horowitz, who charged his brother-in-law, Arnold 

A.Weitzman (), to create the building, inspired from the castles of the Loire in France.

The building offered apartments and opened on February 1st, 1929.

During the Great Depression, Horowitz sold the building to Albert E.Smith (), a producer and film director. He converted the building into a hotel.

From 1942 to 1963 the owner was Erwin Brettauer, a German banker ().

9 Spanish cottages and a swimming pool were built next to the hotel, then bought by the hotel in the 1940s.

After 2 years on the market, the hotel was sold in 1957 to a real estate firm.

In 1990 it was bought by Andre Balazs () who modernized the hotel, keeping the spirit of the Château Marmont.

In 2020, it became accessed only for the private members.

Link with Marilyn
In 1956 Marilyn lived there for several weeks during the shooting of "Bus Stop" (,

).

Arthur Miller who lived at that time in Reno, Nevada, where he dealt with his divorce with Mary Slattery, came sometimes there to join her.
