The first time they met Norma Jeane was in August 1947, at the occasion of the famous annual golf tournament of the Cheviot Hills Country Club (Motor Avenue, Rancho Park; face to the Fox).
Some celebrities took part in and, in order to
enliven the atmosphere, the organizers used some caddies, some
attractive starlets supposed to carry the clubs and the bags of Henry
Fonda (
),James Stewart, John
Wayne, Tyrone Power, and otehr movie stars.
Two weeks before the expiration of her contract with the Fox, Marilyn was sent there, among others, with the Twentieth Century Fox compliments.
On the spot, she was assigned to John Carroll, well-known actor and singer. He was aged 42 and looked attractive which often was worth to be compared to Clark Gable or George Brent.
On December 4, 1947, he signed a manager contract with her (
), which was voluntarily terminated later.
