DOHENY DRIVE

Address apartment 3, 882 North Doheny Drive, Beverly Hills.

Between Sunset Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard, at the corner of Doheny Drive and Cynthia Street.

The Doheny Drive complex first included 5 apartments.

Marilyn lived in a three-rooms apartment, on the second floor. She rented to to Miss Violet Mertz.

Jane Russell and the interiori designer Thomas Lane helped her to decorate everything in white with thick carpets and a baby grand piano.

She lived there (1952-January 1953) before meeting DiMaggio and left this apartment when she married him.

In 1961, after her separation with Arthur Miller and her return from New York, she settled again in Doheny Drive but in another apartment, number 3, she rented monthly for 325$, from August 7, 1961.

This one was blue with mirrors from the floor to the ceiling in the dressing-room, and a black lacquered front door. Marilyn only did few changes, brought just a few belongings (her books, make-up and clothes) and didn't hang none of the reproductions which made the place more familiar for her.

For Christmas 1961, DiMaggio came to spend the feasts with her (as in 1953).

To remove any intruders, the name on her mailbox was the one of Marjorie Stengel, one of her former secretaries.

In the 1980's, the Turkish designer Kalef Alaton converted them in one whole house, with a small flat above the garage.

In 2012 it was on the market to be sold for 4.7 millions $.
