EAST 57th STREET

Address : 444 East 57th Street, New York City.

The apartment had 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a workroom.

In 1957 Marilyn lived there with Arthur Miller, at the 13th floor, with a view on the East River.

Usually New York estate agents managed that number 13 didn't appear and the bulidings skiped from 12 to 14th floor.

With the designer John Moore she made the walls painted in white and set mirrors from the floor to the ceiling in the living-room/sitting-room, after having joined the 2 rooms. The sofa, the armchairs and the furniture were white, as the piano which accompanied her throught her moves.

In his workroom, Miller hung a picture of Marilyn taken by Jack Cardiff in England, during the shooting of "The Prince and The Showgirl" (1957). Even if he had claimed that it was his favourite picture of Marilyn, he gave it up when he left :

It is said that she didn't find the place completed, even if she kept it after Miller's leaving in 1960, and that she made many decoration works.

Lena Pepitone was her chambermaid in this apartment.

This apartment remained officially her main address until her death.
