FBI

Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Marilyn in 1955 became an intense observation subject when she started to date Arthur Miller. After this time, her movings and activities were carefully noticed, from the people she met in New York until her interest for everything which was from Russia.

The FBI, the CIA and the General Attorney Office, in this year of 1955, kept a watchful eye on each and every trips of those who, because of the sympathies they had in the past with Communism, were considered as dangerous enemies of the nation, sympathies which seemed to "prove" their predilection for the Russian culture.

Marilyn's file at the FBI meticulously recounted her departure from Hollywood, her stay at the Greenes in Connecticut, her friendship with Arthur Miller, her lessons at the Actors Studio and her applying for a visa to USSR (dated from August 19, 1955).

Donald Spoto said that J.Edgar Hoover himself commanded a close surveillance of Marilyn abroad, with or without Miller, for private or professional reasons.
