GIFFEN Family

Foster home of Norma Jeane in 1935.

They lived not far from Highland Avenue and welcomed Norma Jeane after the departure of Gladys Baker to the mental institution.

Harvey worked as sound engineer in the cinema indurty, at the Radio Corporation of America (RCA).
They were native to New Orleans.

They had 3 children, including a girl of the same age of Norma Jeane.

They belonged to the middle-class and could give to Norma Jeane the comfortable life of a loving family.

When she came to live with them, Harvey Giffen planned to leave the cinema and to go back to live in New Orleans.

After having consulted each other en famille, they decided to adopt Norma Jeane and  bring her to live with them.

They contacted Gladys at the Norwalk State Hospital, to see how the adoption could be organized; but Gladys refused.
