Story

Before withdrawing from the world and living as a recluse, the famous millionaire lived intensely 3 passions : planes (), cinema and pretty ladies.

On July 7th 1946, Hughes crashed with an American plane prototype he was building for the Air Force, the WF-11.

This day, he crashed on the house of Rosemary deCamp, in Beverly Hills. He broke his ribs, had the ribcage pushed in and suffered from 2nd and 3rd-degree burns.

Reporter Hedda Hopper told that when he was at the hospital and while he was immobilized, he was attracted by the picture of a young woman on the cover of many magazines, it was Norma Jeane. The story tells that he ordered to engage her. But Ben Lyon, the talent scout, had engaged her a week earlier.

Actually, it was exactly Hedda Hopper's article (sagely announced to the press by Emmeline Snively in order to create a kind of activity and to promote one of his agency's girl) which started the events.

Some biographers maintain that Marilyn made a screen-test with the
RKO, Hiward Hughes studios, before signing with the Fox.

In 1957 he married Jean Peters, an actress, who had appeared next to Marilyn in "Niagara" (1953) :

,

They divorced in 1970.
