JOHNSON Nunnally

Date of birth: December 5, 1897, Columbus, Georgia.

Date of death : March 25, 1977, Hollywood, California. Burried at the Westwood Memorial Park.

 

Practise: screenwriter; producer.

 

Story

He was credited in many films including "Jesse James" (1939) and "The Grapes of Wrath" (1940).

 

At the end of the 40's, the Fox engaged Marilyn in " We're Not Married", written and produced by Nunnally Johnson.

 

From 2 plays, he wrote a screenplay for "How to Marry a Millionaire?" (1953) :

Then he wrote 2 projects for the Fox, especially for Marilyn. But she was fed up of playing a sex bomb and was preparing to found the Marilyn Monroe Productions.

"Pink Tights" didn't see the light of day, and "How to Be Very, Very Popular" (1955) was filmed with Sheree North.

 
Despite their mutual antipathy, Johnson and Marilyn were brought together on the set of "Something's Got to Give", where he replaced the former screenwriter. After having refused the daily changes of the script, and after having been himself replaced, he supported Marilyn's cause facing up George Cukor, but Marilyn was nevertheless dismissed.
