KARGER Anna et Mary

Anna KARGER known as "Nana"

Born Anna Conley.

Date of birth : 13 juin 1886.

Date of death : novembre 1975.

 

Place of living : Harper Avenue, West Hollywood.

 

Story

Originated from Ireland, she was Fred Karger's mother.

 
With her sister Effie, they had been members of a theater company named "The Conley Sisters"; she left the entertainment circle and married Maxwell Karger (); died in 1921, he had been one of the founders of the Metro (which would later become the MGM).

 
Her friendship with Marilyn (she nicknamed "Maril") lasted more than the affair between her son and Marilyn.

She took her under her protection the day Marilyn came in her house, and she was, from then on, an important maternal feminine presence for Marilyn : .

In 1948, she was a great comfort for her, the year of the death of "Aunt" Ana Lower.

 
In 1954, after her divorce with Joe DiMaggio and before she fled Hollywood to New york, Marilyn took refuge at her home, on Sunset Boulevard. They stayed in touch until Marilyn's death.


Mary KARGER (known under the name of Mary Karger Short and Mary D'Aubrey)

Date of birth: 1926.

 Fred Karger's sister.

She had 2 children, Anne and Bennett.

She had roughly Marilyn's same age and they were friends.

6 years after their meeting, she gave a moral support to Marilyn while her union with Joe DiMaggio was deteriorating. She went with her at the court.

In 1955, after her departure to the East Coast, Marilyn often visited her; she was remarried and lived in New Jersey.

Anna and Mary appeared among the rare guests at Marilyn's funeral :
