LE MAIRE Charles

Date of birth : April 22, 1897, Chicago, Illinois.

Date of death : June 8, 1985, Palm Springs, California.

Practise : head of the wardrobe department at the Fox from 1943 to 1960.

 

Story

First vaudeville actor, he became costumes designer in Broadway.

He worked on many Broadway's shows in the 20's, including the spectacular dancing shows of Ziegfield, George White and Earl Carroll.

He became head of the Fox wardrobe in 1943, and kept this place until 1960, when he opened his own couture house.

He convinced the Aacademy of Motion Pictures and Sciences, to create an Oscar for the Best Costume Designer. 

He was nominated 17 times, winning the Best Costume Award for  "All About Eve" (1950), "The Robe" (1953) and "Love is a Many-splendored Thing" (1955).

He dressed Marilyn dozen times, from her first screen test on July 19, 1946 :
