He lived in the same building than Arthur Miller in Brooklyn, and owned a house nearby the one of Marilyn and Miller, in Roxbury
(Connecticut); despite this, Marilyn didn't try to meet him.
In 1973, he received the Pulitzer prize for "The Armies of the Night" (1968).
He wrote a fictional biography about Marilyn; originally, the text was an order from the photographer Lawrence Schiller and should go with his pictures. The book was a huge success but was very criticized by Miller.
In 1980 he published "Of Women and Their Elegance" a Marilyn's imaginary diary she would have written at the time she lived with Milton and Amy Greene.
In 1985 in "Strawhead",
a play inspired by Marilyn, which was played during 2 weeks at the Actors studio,
he gave the leading role to his daughter Kate.
