Practise: first set painter, he took the step until becoming a director.
Story
Native to Romania, he emigrated to the USA in 1927.
He first worked for the Warner where he directed "The Mask of Dimitrios" (1944) and "Humoresque" (1947).
For this glamorous project, supposed to supplant the television, the studio casted its three main stars : Lauren
Bacall, Betty Grable and Marilyn.
Shooting
On November 4, 1953, premiere of the movie

He belonged to the small group of directors who refused to publicly comment the issues with Marilyn during a shooting.
Despite the huge success of "How to Marry a Millionaire?", Marilyn and him didn't work together again.
They should have meet again on the shooting of "Something's Got to Give", where he had to replace George Cukor to end the movie.
