Story
Native to Austria, he first studied to be a lawyer and an actor.
He directed : "Laura" (1944), "The Moon Is
Blue" (1953), "The Man With the Golden aRm" (1955), "Anatomy of A
Murder" (1959) (
), "Advise and Consent" (1962).
He was famous for his very timed shootings and liked to work in independent.
In 1953, the direction of "River Of No Return" was part of his contract with the Fox, and it has been said that his lack of enthusiasm to direct anything else than landscapes is felt in the movie.

Making this movie was a test for all the persons
concerned; according to what is said, he tormented Marilyn about the
fact that she was unable to learn her text, made her make her own
stunts and doubted about her virtue. She defended herself with the only
weapons she had : she was regularly late and created difficulties.
Of course he clashed with Natasha Lytess,
Marilyn paid heed to. He managed to suspend Lytess but had to call her
back when Marilyn dug in her heels. The producer Stanley Rubin later
admitted that there were some disagreements between them.
