Friend of William Worton, temporary captain.
In 1950 he was named successor of Worton.
People thought that Thad Brown (chief detective) would have been named, because this one was the protégé of Chandler (head of the Los Angeles Times, who called the shots). Worton chose James Hamilton, himself Parker's friend, at the appointment committee.
Thad Brown and James Hamilton belonged to those who were involved in Marilyn's death (police).On August 2nd 1952, the day of his appointment as head of the Los Angeles Police Department:

William Parker was in charge of the investigation on
Marilyn's death.
Their friendship would date back to the middle of the 50's, when Robert Kennedywas
on the West Coast and that Hamilton and Parker assisted him in his
investigations about some embezzlements within the Senate.
On July 10th 1960 took place the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles.
Parker had a private apartment in the Bilmore hotel, in the same corridor than John, Robert and Ted Kennedy stayed. His apartment became Robert Kennedy's headquarters during the whole time of the Convention.
The security crew included Captain James Hamilton, Lieutenant Darryl
Gates and agents Frank Hronek, Marwin Iannone, Archie Case and
James Ahaern.
He died in 1966 of an attack during a dinner given on his honor.
