ROSENFELD Henry

Henry Jonas Rosenfeld

Date of birth : May 17, 1911.

Date of death : February 5, 1986, New York.

 

Place of living : Atlantic Beach.

 

Practise :  ready-to-wear clothes manufacturer, nicknamed the "Christian Dior of the Bronx".

Story

Legendary figure, he had created his own fashion house during the Second World War, working on the principle that ready-to-wear clothes could also offer models as smart and cheaper than those of the top designers.

Among others, he had created a blouse-dress that secretaries and society women literally snapped up.

In 1955 his turnover reached 80 millions $.

 

Link with Marilyn :

They met in New York City, at the El Morocco in 1949; she was on the roadshow of "Love Happy".

Marilyn often met him when she was in New York.

They remained friends during their whole life. 

He helped her to pay her suite at the Waldorf Astoria in 1955, while the setting up of the Marilyn Monroe Productions.

He gave her financial advices and lent her some money when she was in difficulties while Milton Greene, her partner and her, renegotiated her contract with the Fox.

Greene also tried to make finance by Rosenfeld the future productions, but this one refused. 

Fred Lawrence Guiles wrote that he may have been the one who introduced John Kennedy to Marilyn.
