He was Arthur Miller's lawyer in the trial on grounds of contempt of court, when the House Un-American Activities Committee sued him :
On November 22nd 1956, Marilyn and Arthur Miller arrived in New York, after their stay in London; Joseph Rauh came to welcome them :
In May 1957 they put Arthur Miller and Marilyn up in Washington, during the trial.
Rauh's defense bore fruits : it demonstrated that Miller couldn't be accused of contempt, because the questions he was accused of not having answered, didn't have any link with the case.
During this trial, Joseph Rauh admired the fact that Miller agreed to risk to go in prison for his convictions.
