Story
Spanish residence for budding actresses, created by Mary Pickford in 1916 but settled at this address in 1926.
Three-storey building, with furnished and luminous rooms, restaurant, patio with a fountain. It could welcome 94 people.
Many successful actresses lived at a moment in this stay hotel affiliated to the YWCA (Young Women's Christian Association), among them Barbara Eden, Linda Darnelle, Donna Reed, Kim Novak.
Located near the Columbia.
Marilyn lived there twice :
- September 13th 1946-1947 : after having divorced from Jim Dougherty, while she was under contract with the Fox; she paid 15$ a week and shared the room n° 307 with an actress named Clarice Evans.
- June 3rd 1948 : she had her own room, n° 334; the first 6 months of the rent (300$) were paid by Lucille Ryman. She stayed there intermittently with the guest house of Joe Schenck, at the Karger's home and at Natasha Lytess's home.
Other famous tenants : Sharon Tate, Kim Novak, Linda
Darnell, Sally Sruthers.
The Studio Club closed in 1975.
