DuringSummer 1958, Arthur Miller asked him what he thought about the first draft of his screenplay of "The Misfits"; he thought that John Huston would be an ideal director, and showed his enthusiasm by agreeing, on Marilyn's offer, to leave his position of publishing director at Dell and to produce the movie.
Few years earlier, he had worked for a while in Hollywood and had produced "Mystery Street" (1950).So he was in charge of the production of "The Misfits".
On July 20, 1960, he was present when Marilyn arrived in Reno, for the shooting of "The Misfits"
During the shooting, he was in an uncomfortable situation : he had to prevent the production from going down the drain, despite the internecine quarrels in which the shooting dragged on.
