She first played insignificant parts before winning an Academy Award for "Johnny Belinda" (1948)(), the year Marilyn fell in love with Fred Karger.

 
In 1948 she was divorcing from her first husband, Ronald Reagan :

On November 1st 1952, she married Fred Karger :

They divorced in December 1954.

They remarried on March 11th 1961 but this marriage ended by another divorce on March 9th 1965.

 
She also played in "The Lost Weekend" (1945), "The Magnificient Obsession" (1954), "Pollyanna" (1960).

In the 80's, she was regularly seen in the TV serie "Falcon Crest" :
