Norwalk State Hospital

 

Today : Metropolitan State Hospital.

 

Address 11400 S.Norwalk Boulevard, Norwalk.

 

Hospital for persons with psychiatric disabilities, alcohol and drug addiction, it opened on February 15, 1916.
There were first 105 patients, 21 employees and only one physician.
Most of the people suffered from a syphilis induced psychosis.

Link with Marilyn

Marilyn's grand-mother, Della Mae was transfered there after a nervous breakdown, and died there of a heart attack less than 3 weeks later, on August 23, 1927.

In December 1934, Gladys Baker, her mother, was hospitalized there for a nervous breakdown; except a short period when she lived with her daughter, she stayed there until 1938, when she was transfered to the Agnew

State Asylum, 4000 Lafayette Road (,,,
