Radio Plane Munitions Factory

Story

Property of the English actor Reginald Denny. He had invented guided planes destined to the antiaircraft exercises.

Ethel Mary Dougherty, Norma Jeane's mother-in-law, who worked there as a nurse, found a job for Norma Jeane while Jim Dougherty was gone for the South-East Asia with the Merchant Marine.

She started on April 18, 1944 (), and had 2 jobs, one in the "doper-brush" room

() where she varnished the planes fuselage (), the other as

inspector parachutes (). 

She worked 60 hours a week for 20$.

That's where she was noticed by the Army photographer David Conover, who came at the factory with his colleagues, to take pictures of the women working at the assembly position, and cheer the troops up :

On June 15, 1944, she was elected the first "Queen of the Radioplane" for having sold the most tickets for the

1st annual picnic at Balboa Park, San Diego ,,,

She left the Radio Plane end of 1945, after having entered the Blue Book Modeling Agency.
