SYNOPSIS
Sports movie in the 50's style where the learning of love and team spirit is made in a hard way.
Mickey
Rooney plays the part of an orphan, Johnny Casar, who has escaped.
After having found a job, he is taken by the roller-skate competition
world. He trains, ends up defeating his rival and is hired by the
roller champions team, the Bears. Father O'Hara (Pat O'Brien), who has understood from where he's coming, expresses his pride for his success.
Unfortunately, the success goes to the young hero's head. He thinks and plays for him instead of giving priority to the team spirit, and lets himself leading to a dissolute life where the pretty girls like Polly (Marilyn Monroe) plays a part. They are interested in him only because he is a champion. His former lover, Mary (Beverly Tyler), who learned him roller-skating, takes care of him when he's affected by polio... and he can still take part in the championship. He realizes the real sense of life and helps a young team member to win the game and to reap the benefit of it.
