Born Dorothy Arnoldine Olson.

Story

Her father, E.A.Olson was a train conductor, and the Olsen family lived in a working-class suburb of Duluth, at 2833, 3rd West Street.

She began her career as a young singer in the military band of Duluth, the Duluth Salvation Army Band. 

She appeared in plays at her school and sang in a dance orchestra during the holidays.

According to her sister, Joyce Hadley, Dorothy thought that one day she would reach Hollywood.

She auditionned twice at the Paramount before getting a contract at the Universal Studios. She notably played in the serie "The Phantom of the Creep" with Bela Lugosi (1939) and in "House of Fear"(1939)



She met Joe DiMaggio in 1937 during the production of "Manhattan-Merry-Go-Round" in which she played a small part.

They married on November 19, 1939 at the St Peter and Paul Catholic Church in San Francisco

They divorced on May 12, 1944.

In 1946, she married George Coleridge Schubert (September 2, 1897, Hungary-January 9, 1966, New York)

() a New York stockbrocker, but they divorced in 1949.

August 27, 1970, she married her third husband, Ralph Dan Peckovich (February 1, 1924, Arizona-May 4, 2007, Arizona) in Reno, Nevada.

They ran a posh club in Palm Springs, the Charcoal Charley's, where she sometimes performed.

After having searched miracle drugs in Mexico, she died on November 13, 1984, from a pancreatic cancer.
