Story

He emigrated to the USA on September 14, 1893.

In February 1912 he married Dorothy Goetz (February 5, 1892, Buffalo-July 17, 1912, New York). She 

contracted typhoid fever during their honeymoon in Havana () and died on following July 

().

On January 4, 1926 he married Ellin MacKay (March 22, 1903, New York-July 29, 1988, Californiea)

On December 1, 1928, birth of their son Irving Berlin Jr. The child died of a heart attack on December 25, 1928

Afterwards they had 3 daughters : Mary Ellin (November 25, 1926, New York-July 16, 2022, New York)

(), Elizabeth Irving (June 16, 1936, New York-January 19, 2017, New York)(,

;) and Linda Louise (born February 21, 1932, New York)().

Self-taught composer, he composed more than 1500 songs for Broadway musicals and movies.

He was mostly famous for his caustic lyrics and his swinging melodies.
