Story

In September 1935 he married Ollie Westheimer (June 23, 1913-February 12, 2008, Washington DC).

They had 2 sons Benjamin Michael (born in 1937) and Carl S. (born on December 14, 1940).

He was Arthur Miller's lawyer in the trial on grounds of contempt of court, when the House Un-American

Activities Committee sued him ,

 

On November 22, 1956, Marilyn and Arthur Miller arrived in New York, after their stay in London; Joseph Rauh

came to welcome them 

 

In May 1957 they put Arthur Miller and Marilyn up in Washington, during the trial ().

 

Rauh's defense bore fruits : it demonstrated that Miller couldn't be accused of contempt, because the questions he was accused of not having answered, didn't have any link with the case.

During this trial, Joseph Rauh admired the fact that Miller agreed to risk to go in prison for his convictions.
He also admired Miller as a playwright and as liberal intellectual.
