Her parents were Emil S.Stengel (July 31, 1876, Hungary-May 25, 1955, California) and Eleanor Waetzman (July 1885, Pennsylvania-January 2, 1950, California). They married on December 4, 1905.

They had 2 other daughters : Naomi (born October 18, 1910, Pennsylvania) and Betty Jane (June 2, 1917, Pennsylvania-April 1, 1989, San Francisco).

Marge studied at the University of New York and at the Columbia University.

Since 1954 she started to work for Montgomery Clift. It was probably through him she worked for Marilyn in New York, after May Reis retired.
