Story

The Cohn brothers, Jack and Harry, ran the studio.

At that time, the Columbia Pictures was one of the lower budget studios and worked because of borrowing the stars from the other studios.

In the 30's, the studio would make a fortune with "It Happened One Night", a comedy which would be the basis of the studio celebrity and fortune.

Link with Marilyn

Her mother Gladys Baker worked there as a film cutter in 1927.

Grace McKee worked also there in 1934.

On March 9, 1948, Harry Cohn, head of the Columbia, signed a 6 months contract to Marilyn, on the basis of 125$ a week. She had been recommanded to him by one of the Fox Studios directors, Joe Schenck.

She played in only 1 movie, "Ladies of the Chorus".

Her stay at the studio meant a lot : the studio hairdressers drew her hairstyle again and made her hair more bouffant, with electrolysis sessions. Then her ash blond hair was treated with hydrogen peroxide to make them platinum bonde, like Jean Harlow's style.

Max Arnow, one of the casting directors, introduced her to Natasha Lytess, her drama teacher for 7 years and to Fred Karger, her singing teacher.
