In 1961 Joe DiMaggio organized there Marilyn's transfert from the Payne Whitney Hospital.
She was hospitalized there from February 17 to March 6, 1961, room 719, for physical and psychological exhaustion.
DiMaggio visited her every day.
Shortly before leaving the hospital, she wrote to
"Dear Dr Greenson,
Through the window of the hospital, I see the snow
has recovered everthing. Every greens are faded. I see the grass and
the evergreen frail bushes, but the trees give me some hope - their sad
and bare branches may announce spring and promise some hope...As I'm
writing those words, four silent tears have flew on my cheeks. I don't
know why. I haven't slept all night long. Sometimes I wonder why the
night is used for. To me, it's only on long endless day".
