Story

The "Norma" of Norma Jeane was a tribute to this star, Gladys Baker's favourite actress.

Many considered her as the best actress and the most multipurpose of silent films.

Her parents were Frederick John Talmadge (May 4, 1868, Connecticut-November 15, 1925, Los Angeles

) and Margaret Louise "Peg" (November 3, 1864, New York-September 29, 1933, Los Angeles

)().

She was the eldest of 3 sisters, actresses too, Constance (April 19, 1898, New York-November 23, 1973, Los Angeles) and Natalie (April 28, 1896, New York-June 19, 1969, Los Angeles) who married actor Buster Keaton.

She became famous thanks to "Battle Cry of Peace" (1914).

On October 20, 1916 she married the producer Joe Schenck (); he helped her to launch the Norma Talmadge Productions, before running the United Artists, then his own studio, the Fox.

,.

She was at the top of the box-office during the 20's until the advent of talking pictures; her strong Brooklyn accent became an insurmountable handicap.

In 1926, she withdrew from cinema aged 33; she had shot more than 60 movies.

The divorce with Schenck happened on April 4, 1934.

For her second wedding she married the actor Georges Jessel (April 3, 1898, New York-May 24, 1981, Los

Angeles) on April 23, 1934.  ,

They divorced on August 11, 1939.

She married her last husband Dr Carvel Musser James (December 9, 1902, Salt Lake City-May 5, 1980, Las

Vegas)(,,) to whom she had been the patient, on December 4, 1946 in Las

Vegas (), where she lived.
