It was suggested that he would marry Norma Jeane. With the Goddard's
leaving and the fact she was still a minor, she faced the risk to be
send again to the orphanage. He officially proposed to her, taking her chosing a wedding ring and a date was set in June.
In March the Goddards left California to settle in West Virginia.
In June Norma Jeane ended her school years.

The invitations to the wedding had been sent by "Miss Ana Lower" ()
for the wedding of "her niece Norma Jeane Baker". On the wedding
certificate she signed "Norma Jeane Mortensen, daughter of
E.Mortensen,
place of birth unknown" () and a woman called "Monroe, born in Oregon".
The wedding took place on Friday, June 19 at Mr and Mrs Chester Howell's home, 432 South
Bentley Avenue, West Los Angeles (,,).
They were Grace's friends.
Ana Lower created Norma Jeane's wedding gown (,).
The ceremony started at 8.30 PM, and was celebrated by Reverend Benjamin
Lingenfelder, from the Christian Science Church. None of any member of her biological family attended the ceremony. The Bolenders were the only people there. Ana Lower led Norma Jeane to the altar.
Her mother Gladys Baker was still hsopitalized at the Agnew State Hospital.
Marion Dougherty, Jim's brother, was his groomsman, the maid of honor
was Lorraine Allen, Norma Jeane's schoolmate at University
