This year started under the depression sign, after her miscarriage in December 1958.


Marilyn resumed her psychoanalysis sessions with Dr Marianne Kris ().

SUMMER

Jerry Wald (
), producer at the Fox, offered her to take part in "Let's Make Love" directed by George

Cukor

), with Gregory Peck.

Marilyn agreed but however, the sctreenplay was reworked by Arthur Miller. Cukor hired Evelyn Moriarty

) as Marilyn's understudy; she would remain her understudy until her last movie

, Arthur gave the screenplay he had reworked on to Jerry Wald, this one gave it to Gregory Peck who had to play the first masculine part. But noticing that Marilyn's part had significantly grown at his detriment, he asked to terminate his contract. He gave back the $100 000 advance that had been paid to him.
So Miller suggested the name of Yves Montand : the Fox agreed.
