JANUARY


Tuesday, January 1, Marilyn received the "Award of Achievement"() from the Motion Picture Herald in association with Fame, for her ranking in the 1956 "Top Ten Making Star".

Thursday, January 3, Marilyn and Arthur Miller left Idlewild Airport, New York (,,

,), and arrived at the Palisadoes Airport in Kingston, Jamaica, where a traditional glass

of rum welcomed them (,,).

During their stay from January, Thursday 3 to Thursday 17, they lived in the "Moot Point" villa belonging to the English Lady Pamela Bird. They were accompanied with Arthur's cousin, Morton Miller and his wife Florence.

Dinner at the Jamaica Inn ().

January, Thursday 17, at the Half Moon Hotel in Montego Bay (). Then they took off from

the Montego Bay airport ().

In New York City they rented an apartment located 444 East 57th Street (,

FEBRUARY


Marilyn started a treatment against the endometriosis she suffered from, at the Doctor's Hospital in

New York City ().


MARCH


Arthur had advised her to replace her psychiatrist. Until them she was still seeing Dr Margaret

Hohenberg
(). Via Anna Freud that Marilyn had met in London during the filming of "The Prince and the Showgirl" in 1956, she contacted her childhood friend, Dr Marianne Kris who lived in New York City

(). She had just lost her husband Ernst Kris (), with who she had a private practice dedicated to child psychoanalysis. She would be Marilyn's therapist until the beginning of 1961.
Dr Kris lived in the same building where the Strasbergs lived, that allowed her to take private lessons with Lee Strasberg after her psychoanalysis weekly sessions.



APRIL


Monday, April 1, along with Arthur, she watched the first version of "The Prince and the Showgirl" : she was very disappointed about the changes made, according to her, by Milton Greene.
Their relationship had started to deteriorate since the filming in London.
Arthur encouraged her to keep Milton out of the Marilyn Monroe Productions.

Helped with her new secretary May Reis (), she wrote a long letter to Jack Warner.
She regretted that Milton hadn't dealt with the post-productions issues by working with Laurence Olivier and the film editors. She insisted on the fact that Milton had never been considered as the movie executive.
However that had been clearaly written in the contact between the MMP and Warner.

In this context, Milton demanded her $100 000 to put an end to their partnership.

Wednesday, April 10, she attended a preparatory meeting so that the Free Milk Find for Babies would sponsor "The Prince and the Showgirl" premiere. Marilyn met Mrs Hearst, founder and President of the Foundation, and Mr Russell Downing, President of the Radio City Hall where the premiere would take place on June 13, 1957

Thursday, April 11, Robert H.Montgomery Jr, one of Miller's lawyers, published a release, explaining that Milton hadn't properly run the Marilyn Monroe Productions, the consequence was that a new board would be nominated.

In the evening, Arthur and Marilyn attended Lafayette's 200th birthday party at the Waldorf Astoria (

Elsa Maxwell (,), the French actors Gerard Philippe and Jean Marais among

others, attended the party (,).


Tuesday, April 16, Marilyn annnounced that Marilyn Monroe Productions' vice-president, Milton Greene,

the lawyer Irving Stein and the accountant Joseph Carr would leave the company (,).

They were replaced by Miller's lawyer Robert H.Mpntgomery Jr, Arthur's brother-in-law George Kupchik who would become the financial manager, and George Levine, one of Miller's friend. Arthur was designated as vice- president.



MAY


Monday, May 6

Then she left to Washington DC where Arthur's trial would take place on Tuesday, May 14 (

It was admitted that Marilyn wouldn't attend the trial.


Thursday, May 23, Marilyn announced to the press that she was in Washington DC to see her husband

declared as innocent (
,,). Then the Millers went to the railway

station to go back to New York City (
).

Miller would be convicted, then cleared 2 years later, after an appeal.



JUNE


The Millers settled in Amagansett, at the Eastern peak of Long Island. They rented a house, Stony Hill

Farm (,). They spent time with the Rostens who had a summer residence in

Springs, near Amagansett ().

Back to New York, picture session with their friend, the photographer Sam Shaw (,

Thursday, June 13, premiere of "The Prince and the Showgirl" (,), at the Radio

City Music Hall, New York City (,,,).


A dinner followed at the Waldorf Astoria (,,).

The movie's co-producer, Jack Warner, was also there ().

Marilyn donated the film premiere's income to the Milk Fund for Babies (,,

).



JULY


Tuesday, July 2, Marilyn attended the opening of the "Sidewlk Superintendants Club" who would watch over

the construction of the Time-Life building ().

She arrived 2 hours late in an helicopter (,). She was welcomed by

Laurence Rockfeller (,).

Marilyn was informed she was pregnant. She spent the whole summer in Amagansett ().

Sam Shaw took pictures at Stony Hill Farm (,) and in Hampton Beach

AUGUST


Thursday, August 1, while gardening, Marilyn suffered from an intense abdominal pain. Arthur Miller called an

ambulance which carried them to the New York Doctor's Hospital where she was followed ().

Having an ectopic pregnancy, she was operated by Drs Bernard Berglass () and

Hilliard Dubrow (). She would remain hospitalized during 10 days. Arthur slept in a room located at

another floor in the hospital ().

She left on Saturday, August 10 (,,,,

).

They went back to Amagansett for a few days, before ending the summer in the City.

They spent Fall between their apartment in in New York and the house in Roxbury (,

NOVEMBER


Monday, November 18, Arthur and Marilyn attended the premiere of the play "Conversation Piece" in which

Arthur's sister, Joan Copeland, played (,). A party followed a the Barbizon


Plaza Hotel (,).
